RNC Deputy Secretary Raffi Williams went on “Fox and Friends” to challenge the NAACP on their failure to recognize the significant black republican victories of Representative-elect Mia Love and Senator Tim Scott.
The statement issued by the NAACP read:
“NAACP STATEMENT ON OUTCOME OF THE 2014 MIDTERM ELECTIONS
November 05, 2014
(Baltimore, Md.) — The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is committed to leading the effort alongside other civil and human rights organizations and our newly elected Congress to pass a robust Voting Rights Act Amendment.Equal access to voting remains paramount as numerous reports of voting irregularities emerged during the midterm elections yesterday.”
It went on to say:
“Cornell William Brooks, President and CEO of the NAACP:
‘This election was not about who won but the rather the citizens who lost the right to participate.’”
These statements are what sparked a response on twitter by Raffi Williams:
can we take a moment to understand how the @NAACP didnt congratulate the first black person ever elected to both the House and Senate?

it is unacceptable for an org that supposedly supports all blacks @NAACP to only acknowledge Dem blacks

.@NAACP should support all black ppl who are working to affect positive change in their communities. But they dont
