A “Summer of Recovery”

August 24, 2010 by Daniel

by Tad DeHaven

The White House’s misbegotten “Summer of Recovery” continued today with the release of another administration “analysis” that purportedly demonstrates the stimulus’s success in “transforming” the economy.

Vice President Joe Biden unveiled the report alongside Energy secretary Steven Chu and numerous businesses officials willing to serve as political props in return for Uncle Sam’s free candy. Biden bemoaned the nefarious “special interests” that were coddled by the previous administration. What does the vice president think those subsidized business officials attending his speech are called?

The money the White House has lavished on these privileged businesses isn’t free. The money comes from taxpayers—including businesses that do not enjoy the favor of the White House—who consequently have $100 billion (plus interest) less to spend or invest. Therefore, the fundamental question is: Are Joe Biden — an individual who has spent his entire career in government— and the Washington political class better at directing economic activity than the private sector?

The Draining of Both Sides of the Swamp

August 9, 2010 by Daniel

by Ted Nugent | HumanEvents

Instead of “draining the swamp” of corruption as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised Americans in 2006, under her tenure the congressional swamp has grown more putrid, more corrupt, and more out-of-touch with ordinary Americans.

With abundant just cause, Americans can’t stand the smell of the squawking, lethargic, spendthrift Congress run by Pelosi—a whopping 11% approval rating according to Gallup. Americans have no faith, confidence or trust in the Pelosi-controlled Congress. There is good reason for this dismal approval rating.

Enter Congressrat Charlie Rangel who represents Harlem. Although he is presumed innocent until proven guilty, anyone can see that Rangel is an unethical schmuck who is more deserving of a prison cell than a seat in Congress. The shadow of corruption has followed Rangel around for years.

Rangel has been charged with 13 ethics violations. You may recall Rangel stepped down from his chairmanship of the House Ways and Means Committee— the committee that writes our tax laws—for not paying all of his taxes. One has to wonder if he shared tax-cheat tips with Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner.

One of the 13 charges against Rangel is that he failed to disclose hundreds of thousands of dollars in income and assets over the years. Rangel will surely try to wrangle himself out of his swamp-infested tax mess but the evidence against him stinks like standing-still swamp water. Rangel is the current poster child for congressional corruption.

President Obama, Pelosi and other Democrats know Rangel is a political liability that they don’t need at the moment, as they are doing enough damage on their own to the Democratic Party with their Socialistic policies. Rangel’s ethics trial is set to start in September which is just two months before the Democrat swamp-draining election in November.

Rangel is not alone when it comes to being investigated and charged with unethical behavior. Democratic Congressrat Maxine Waters also faces ethics charges related to helping banks receive federal bailout money, including a bank that her husband had a financial stake in. Surely this is all just a big misunderstanding.

Just watch, the Congressrats on both sides of the political isle will circle the wagons and protect Rangel. Regardless of the outcome of his trial, they will speak of all the good work he did in Congress, how he worked tirelessly to serve his constituents, was a patriot and loved America, etc. Not one of them will say that Congress is a better institution with Rangel out of it.

Amnesty Memo to Bypass Congress

July 31, 2010 by Daniel

The recent amnesty memo for illegal immigrants is a work that aims to bypass Congress, a notion that is being denied by Press Sec. Robert Gibbs. And while the issue over illegals is a heated one, the memo lays out two future talking points that will be used to target support for an amnesty bill: To promote family unity, and To foster economic growth.

To blow smoke and mirrors with goody-two-shoes politics with the idea that democrats ‘promote family unity’ is rediculous. It is the democrats that promote anti-family values.

The talking point of fostering economic growth is two-sided itself. The arguement from those on the left is that it would put those people in the tax system that would in turn pay down the deficit. A deficit they built. But, what it would really do is continue to keep unemployed individuals unemployed. Arguing that it would not be possible to pay to send illegals home is a horrible attempt at the left to appear fiscally responsible.

Real reform must take place in the halls of Washington from both sides. Controversial bypass memos will only continue to be the shovel that will dig the lefts hole bigger.

NASA’s Muslim Mission to Space

July 5, 2010 by Daniel

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden

It seems that everywhere you turn, Muslims are turning up and making a stand. And, while that isn’t necessarily a bad idea, is it one that could lead to another crisis?

With the notion of playing on people’s fears and teetering on the idea of a conspiracy, people of the Muslim community have shown their face at every national crisis.

The crotch bomber: Muslim. The Ft. Hood shooter: Muslim. Do you see a repeating theme? In every instance, Muslims have been there.

So why would the administration want to endanger the International Space Station and even more lives? Who knows what they have in store anymore.

FoxNews | NASA Chief: Next Frontier Better Relations With Muslim World

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said in a recent interview that his “foremost” mission as the head of America’s space exploration agency is to improve relations with the Muslim world.

Though international diplomacy would seem well outside NASA’s orbit, Bolden said in an interview with Al Jazeera that strengthening those ties was among the top tasks President Obama assigned him. He said better interaction with the Muslim world would ultimately advance space travel.

“When I became the NASA administrator — or before I became the NASA administrator — he charged me with three things. One was he wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math, he wanted me to expand our international relationships, and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science … and math and engineering,” Bolden said in the interview.

BP Agrees to $20 Billion Escrow Fund

June 16, 2010 by Daniel

Obama meeting with BP executives

Tuesday night, Obama offered an address to the nation about the BP oil spill disaster. What we learned is that there would be a fund set aside by BP and that it wouldn’t be controlled by the administration, but that it would be controlled by a non-biased independent third party. Sounds great, right?

Well, today we learned that BP, after spending hours talking with Obama, had agreed to set up a $20 billion escrow fund. Obama also included large references to what he said in last nights address as filler. After all, it wouldn’t be enough to just stick to the point and get back to work on one of the nations worst disasters.

His main talking point for today was about the escrow fund and its workings. He also said, again, that it would be controlled by a non-biased independent third party. But who would have guessed that the person in charge of this fund would be found within the administration? Only the Amatuer-in-Chief would not look to the private sector for managing these funds.

Kenneth Fienberg, who was once the ‘Pay Czar’, is now the ‘Oil Spill Payout Czar.’ How great is that! But didn’t Obama say he would choose a non-biased independent third party? Who would have ever guessed that anyone who was a part of the administration was non-biased?

Michelle Bachmann had this to say:

“The president just called for creating a fund that would be administered by outsiders which would be more of a redistribution-of-wealth fund, and now it appears we’re going to be looking at yet one more gateway for more government control, more money to government,” she said. “If there’s a disaster, why is it that government is the one who always seems to benefit after a disaster?”

Obama’s Katrina Moment Serves as Double Trouble

June 1, 2010 by Daniel

Obama discussing tar balls

When President Bush reacted to the devastation left in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, many on the left argued he didn’t react soon enough. And, while most on both sides agree with this argument, the talk of how Obama has handle the BP oil spill has not escalated to the same effect.

After all, the ball was left in the hands of BP for nearly 30 days before any notable action from Obama took place. This is contrary to his ideology of big government stepping in and controlling every little thing they can. From health care to the auto industry, skeptics are left pondering why Obama has not acted sooner, leaving untested recovery and stop-leak measures in the hands of big-oil company BP. But that is only the half of it.

What about those displace by the floods in Tennessee? Where was the President’s reaction during the worst flood in Tennessee history?

Obama ran on the idea that if there was either a natural or “man-made” disaster during his presidency, he would handle them better than Bush did during Katrina. Well, that idea hasn’t worked so well.

First, take a look at the “man-made” disasters. All of which have been very close calls. However, it’s the reaction from his Administration an himself that has failed. Most recently, his lack of reaction to the BP oil spill caused outspoken outrage by leadership in Louisiana when Bobby Jindal said, “We have been frustrated with the disjointed effort to date that has too often meant too little, too late to stop the oil from hitting our coast.”

Second, his reaction to natural disaster has definitely fallen short in the flood-stricken state of Tennessee. Now, if he were to be pressed about this issue, he would most likely entertain the idea that the people of Haiti needed more help at the time. After all, Obama seems to hold other nations and states higher that that of America.

While Obama wants to admit it or not, this is his Katrina moment, and whether he reacts or not, he is fundamentally wrong. His lack of reaction shows his disdain for Americans. His delayed reaction shows his lack of experience and leadership.

Responding to Obamacare

March 24, 2010 by Daniel

Barack Obama and Joe Biden before signing Obamacare

Now that Obamacare has been signed by President Obama, attack plans take shape to diminish its level of socialism. One of those ideas comes by way of Dick Morris, contributor for HumanEvents.com

Responding to Obamacare: Restore, Defeat, Defund, Repeal

Let’s begin our reaction to the passage of Obamacare by remembering Winston Churchill’s famous formulation with which he introduced his war memoirs:

In defeat: defiance.

In war: resolution.

In victory: magnanimity.

In peace: goodwill.

Now is the time for defiance! Here’s what we must do:

1) Restore the Medicare cuts mandated in this bill. Block the reduction of physicians’ fees by 21 percent scheduled to take effect this fall. Override the cuts in Medicare that require annual approval by Congress. Challenge the Democrats over each and every cut. Try to peel away enough votes to stop the cuts from driving doctors and hospitals to adopt the course already taken by the Mayo Clinic in refusing to take Medicare patients.

2. Defeat the Democrats in the 2010 election! Start with the traitors who voted no in November and then switched to a shameful yes when it counted in March. Then go on to win the open seats in the House and Senate. And then fight to replace as many Democrats as possible. Remember: Any Democrat who voted no would have voted yes if they had needed his or her vote. The only way to repeal Obamacare is to vote Republican.

3. Defund. Once we get the majority in both chambers, defund appropriations for the Obamacare program. The bill passed by the Congress and signed by the president is simply an authorization measure. Funds must be appropriated for it each year by Congress. Through zero funding these changes, we can cripple them before they take full effect.

4. Repeal. And, once we defeat Barack Obama, we need to proceed to repeal this disastrous plan before it can ruin our health care system. Then, we must replace it with a Republican alternative that relies on the marketplace, tax incentives and individual responsibility to provide health care to all Americans.

Above all, we must finally learn the fundamental lesson this political process we have been through has to teach: that there is no such thing as a conservative or moderate Democrat.
