TSV-TV: Veterans vs Budget Deals

December 27, 2013 by Daniel

Tonight’s show picked up right where we left off last time, talking about the selling out of Veteran’s retirement benefits for a ‘Bipartisan’ budget deal.

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/12/26/military-veterans-scathing-open-letter-to-paul-ryan-is-set-to-go-viral/

  • Chuck Wooten – military vet ticked off about the Paul Ryan/Patty Murray ‘bipartisan’ budget deal

  • includes cuts to veteran retirements (we already talked about it)

  • the final straw was getting a fundraising email from Paul Ryan

  • took to FB and his post went viral

– A snippet of Mr. Wooten’s letter –

You may not know us by name, but we’re the people, Congressman, who answered our Nation’s call, some of us at a very early age to willingly serve YOU and others LIKE YOU so you could safely attend college and pursue your personal ambitions without fear of harm.

You might also want to note that for at least 20 years, my brothers-in-arms answered that call of duty EVERY SINGLE DAY, without fail, without complaint, without enough money to sustain our loved ones we had to leave behind while we DID OUR JOB in every corner of the Earth. And for that service, we were given absolute assurance our so-called retirement benefits would be protected by law. The very law you shattered in your zeal to impress your Democratic cohorts in your back room deal–with the enemy.

If you think this is just a few people that are outraged about this, you are wrong! Many veteran groups are steamed about this. And rightly so, especially after hearing this:

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/12/23/AP-Military-Personnel-Make-Enough-Money-To-Survive-Pension-Cuts

  • AP thinks that retiring military personnel should be able to weather the cuts

  • AP suggests that they – the military retirees –  have great health insurance

  • and “quality of life” benefits: among them are payments for continued education and the ability to buy groceries at a discount   —-   [(but not when the government shuts down!)more on this when we get around to our Year in Review show]

Look, our veterans don’t deserve this. We need to do more to show our appreciation for their service. It’s not because they need to pay rent! They do it because they love their country. Please, feel free to share this with your friends and family to raise some awareness.

Republicans argue to find funding elsewhere: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?r113:18:./temp/~r113ocNkZp::

FACT: http://veterans.house.gov/budget – The GOP Budget Keeps Discretionary Spending for Veterans Exactly the Same as Proposed By President Obama: $61.342 Billion. Using CBO numbers (which, by law, every Congressional budget resolution must use), the GOP budget assumes discretionary spending (i.e., VA medical care, construction, claims processing and national cemetery administration, etc.) on veterans in FY 2013 at exactly the amount requested in the President’s Budget. In both budgets, this translates to a 4.3% increase above the FY 2012 funding level for VA, as recommended in the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs’ bipartisan Views and Estimates letter.

FACT: The GOP Budget Fully Funds VA Entitlement Programs in FY 2013 and Beyond. Again, using CBO numbers, the GOP budget fully funds VA entitlement programs (i.e., disability compensation, pension, GI Bill, etc.) this year and beyond. The only difference between the GOP Budget and the President’s Budget under mandatory spending is the exclusion of the President’s $1 billion Veterans Jobs Corps proposal, on which the Administration has yet to produce any details. The exclusion of the Veterans Jobs Corps in FY 2013 spending is supported by all 11 House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs’ Democrats and Senator Patty Murray of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs (see SVAC V&E letter).

FACT: The Word “Veterans” Appears 41 Times in the GOP Budget. FY 2014 advanced appropriations for veterans’ medical care is dictated by Section 501(c) of the GOP budget resolution, which permits advance appropriation not exceeding $54.462 Billion “for the following programs in the Department of Veterans Affairs – (A) Medical Services; (B) Medical Support and Compliance; and (C) Medical Facilities accounts of the Veterans Health Administration.”  The word “veterans” clearly appears in the GOP Budget.

The Main Problem With A&E vs The Duck Commander

December 21, 2013 by Daniel

phil robertson doens't camouflage his faith

Show Notes:

Why did A&E sign Duck Dynasty?

  • Family?
  • Wholesome?
  • Funny?
  • It’s what people wanted to see?

Did they not know what they were getting themselves into?

  • You blindly allow them to pray at the end of each episode
  • But now you turn your back on him for saying what he said

The Robertson Family doesn’t need A&E like A&E needs them.

  • They were successful before this show and will be long afterward.

Why is it wrong for Phil to express his opinions and beliefs, but okay for you?

  • Do you not understand what being a bigot is?
  • What about being a hypocrite?
  • He has just as much a right to say what he believes as you do to parade up and down the streets.
  • Get over it, and get over yourself!

Before you pick up the first stone, be sure to know that you are without problems before throwing it.

  • This illustrates a bigger problem here in America
  • You are awarded for being just plain nasty and twerking on live TV, but put to the gallows for standing firm on your beliefs.
  • You are heroed for being a corrupt politician who says the lie of the century “If you like your health insurance you can keep it,” but be sent to stake for preaching the word of God.
  • Isn’t it time to put down the stones, and pick up the Good book?

Judge Rules that NSA Phone Snooping is Likely Unconstitutional

December 16, 2013 by Daniel

On Monday, a Federal Judge ruled that the National Security Agency’s phone snooping is likely unconstitutional.

NSA Phone Snooping
file photo: AP

The phone snooping of the NSA is a program that collects information on almost every telephone call made to, from and within the United States.

Due to a lawsuit by Larry Klayman, a conservative legal activist, U.S. District Court Judge Richard Leon issued a preliminary injunction. This would bar the NSA from collecting ‘metadata’ on the individuals Klayman is representing.

Leon stated: “I cannot imagine a more ‘indiscriminate’ and ‘arbitrary invasion’ than this systematic and high-tech collection and retention of personal data on virtually every single citizen for purposes of querying it and analyzing it without judicial approval.”

So you may be asking what about this is unconstitutional. Well, take a look at the Fourth Amendment which says:

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Leon’s 68 page opinion on the case can be found HERE.

Discussing Convention of States at Mount Vernon Assembly

December 9, 2013 by Daniel

Over the weekend, close to 100 legislators from 32 states gathered at George Washington’s home in Mount Vernon.

Prayer at Mount Vernon Assembly

Their reason was to discuss the possibility of a Convention of the States, as described in Article V of the U.S. Constitution. Article V is the path to proposing amendments to the Constitution.

Article V of the Constitution reads as follows:

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.

With that in mind, approval ratings for Congress are at all time lows and people have no confidence in what goes on in Washington.

So what does all this mean? Not only are the people fed up, but so are the states. They are willing to take matters into their own hands and restrain Washington.

Again . . . What does this mean? Why now? What is happening?

One poll shows that 75 percent of Americans support Congressional term limits, while another indicates 74 percent support a balanced budget amendment.

So, this group of state legislators have organized and put together a plan that would provide a way to amend the Constitution.

It’s fairly obvious that two amendments could be proposed: 1) term limits, and 2) a balanced budget amendment.

President Eisenhower said on Congressional term limits: “What is good for the President might very well be good for the Congress.”

On a balanced budget amendment, Ronald Reagan said, “That’s why I’m one of those Americans who has always believed a constitutional amendment mandating that Congress balance the budget is the answer to what ails us.”

Supreme Court Agrees to Hear Contraception Mandate

November 27, 2013 by Daniel

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court agreed to hear arguments on another Obamacare issue.

supreme court

The issue this time: the contraception mandate. This requirement has caused many companies to say that it is an attack on their religious freedom. They argue that because they as a company are required to provide health coverage, which must include coverage for birth control, goes against what they believe.

So, now that these cases are piling up and causing division in the lower courts, the Supreme Court is taking up the case. And, it isn’t expected to release a decision until mid-year 2014.

This will certainly be an interesting case. Besides the fact that the government is allowed to mandate what you as a free citizen must have, they are also trying to force private companies into what they must provide an employee as a benefit.

This should never have gotten this far. This should have been an open and shut case because the government should never have been allowed to regulate what you must purchase. Health care is NOT a right, it’s a privilege.

Obamacare Website Not Even Done Being Built Yet

November 19, 2013 by Daniel

As if there weren’t enough problems surrounding the Obamacare website, new revelation came out today that the website isn’t even done being built yet.

Rep. Cory Gardner (R-CO) questioned Henry Chao, deputy chief information officer of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, about ongoing security issues and the completion of the website.

Chao revealed that about 60% – 70% of the back-end of the website isn’t completed yet. They still have to build the payment portion of the website.

Here is some of his testimony from today:

Why 39 Democrats Broke From Obamacare

November 16, 2013 by Daniel

Upton vote

President Obama’s one-year reprieve came one day before the House approved legislation that would allow insurers to continue to offer policies on the individual market.

The reason Obama had to do this is because of his faltering Affordable Care Act known as Obamacare. What was sold to so many people as a fix for the costs of health care. The problem is that nobody is signing up to be part of the government health exchange. And at the same time, MILLIONS of people are having their insurance plans canceled.

After all, everyone was told repeatedly by Obama and his administration that if you liked your plan you could keep it. However, the fine print was so small you would need a microscope to read it. It’s that fine print that caused so many people to lose their coverage.

So when the Upton bill hit the floor, it was known that it would be a battle of Republicans vs Democrats. Little did they factor, a handful of Democrats broke from Obamacare and voted in favor of the bill.

By them throwing in their vote for the Upton bill, it just goes to show that they recognize the problems with Obamacare. That, and so many of them want to get re-elected in 2014 and 2016.

That’s right. They are only doing this to save their career and get re-elected!

Even if they do it knowing that Obama would veto it, they can still come back later and say they fought for you. They tried and Obama failed them. After all, Obama’s not up for re-election, they are.
