Cruz Hits Trump on New York Values

January 15, 2016 by Daniel

Ted Cruz targeted Donald Trump by calling out his ‘New York values.’

During the GOP debate hosted by Fox Business, Ted Cruz was asked to explain his comment about how Trump ’embodies New York values.’

Cruz responded by saying everyone knows New York City is ‘socially liberal, pro-abortion, and pro-gay marriage.’ Also adding Trump stated in an old interview with Tim Russert, where Donald said, “I’m from New York, that’s what we believe in New York.”

Cruz ended his comments by saying:

“Not a lot of conservatives come out of Manhattan.”

That statement seemed to be a response to earlier claims by Trump on Cruz that ‘not many evangelicals come out of Cuba.’

Trump responded:

“And just so — if I could, because he insulted a lot of people. I’ve had more calls on that statement that Ted made, that New York is a great place, it’s got great people, it’s got loving people, wonderful people. When the World Trade Center came down, I saw something that no place on earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than New York. You had two 110-story buildings come crashing down, I saw them come down, thousands of people killed, and the cleanup started the next day, and it was the most horrific cleanup, probably in the history of doing this, and in construction, I was down there. And I’ve never seen anything like it. And the people in New York fought, and fought, and fought, and we saw more death and even the smell of death, nobody understood it, and it was with us for months, the smell. the air. And we rebuilt downtown Manhattan, and everybody in the world watched, and everybody in the world loved New York, and loved New Yorkers, and I have to tell you, that was a very insulting statement that Ted made.”

The problem with Trump’s response is that Cruz wasn’t attacking New Yorkers; Trump spun his response to make it seem that way. Cruz’s claim had nothing to do with the response after 9/11. Trump brought that up in the hopes to tug and pull at the heart-strings.

The attack we witnessed, and the rebuilding since then, is exactly what we would have seen if it had happened anywhere in America. That’s who America is. We come together!
