The Pepto Bombers: Trail Run or Exploitation?

Two men were arrested trying to travel with cell phones taped to a bottle of Pepto Bismol, box knives, other knives and watches and cell phones all taped together.

There seems to be more to this. Is it a simple trial run – which they would have been victorious in as they were cleared to galavant across the U.S. skies – or is this a simple exploitation of the holes in the security system?

Both. They got away to a certain extent because of the holes, and it only takes one security checkpoint officer to clear these two to be able to board the planes with others at risk.

Two men from the Detroit area were arrested in Amsterdam on a flight arriving from Chicago, reportedly suspected of assessing the aviation system for a potential future terror attack.

The two men did not have prohibited items on them, a law enforcement official told Fox News, saying that although knives were found in their checked luggage, such checked items aren’t prohibited. Law enforcement officials also found several non-functioning cell phones taped together, a phone taped to a Pepto Bismol bottle and a knife and box cutter in checked luggage connected with the men.
