“But a Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.” – John Adams
Scooter Schaefer | Constitution “Optional”
In a few weeks Obama’s judicial nominee Elena Kagan will face the Senate Judiciary Committee and the American people in her nomination process to serve on the Supreme Court. As members of both parties draw their battle lines and rehearse their talking points in preparation for the hearings, conservatives are missing a clear opportunity to activate the American people in opposition to a global activist who will bring a Constitution “optional” judicial philosophy to the High Court.
If fiscal irresponsibility on the part of the federal government launched the current Tea Party movement, then disregard for the Constitution has fueled its flames. After all, it was an act of civil disobedience in Boston Harbor that would ignite a fire in the colonies and decades later culminate into a newly formed nation with a Constitution that would protect against the very same tyranny which spawned the original Tea Party.
As an academic, Elena Kagan and many of her elitist colleagues have shown disregard for the principles by which our nation was founded, and the importance of a document intended to restrain government and protect the individual.
Andrew B. Wilson | Arrogance in the Executive
Real leadership means never having to say you’re the boss. There is no surer sign of weakness and insecurity than the repeated assertion of your own power and authority. This truth has somehow eluded Barack Obama. Hence the unending (and off-putting) self-puffery in his recent presidential press conference.
Again and again, the president felt obliged to remind us of the centrality of his own position in responding to the Gulf oil spill, as if this would counteract the horrible pictures of thousands of gallons of oil gushing out of the ocean floor.
Mona Charen | Disgracing America
President Barack Obama, who got his start in politics in the living room of domestic terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, and spent his first year in office apologizing for American history, has now decisively tipped U.S. foreign policy toward America’s enemies. Events of the past week have left no doubt.
There is a pattern. President “Let No Crisis Be Wasted” Obama twists events to justify his radical agenda. A financial crisis becomes the excuse for a massive health care entitlement. An oil spill is exploited to push an unpopular energy tax. And a jihadist publicity stunt — the Gaza flotilla — becomes the occasion to throw Israel to the wolves.
One mentions Ayers and Dohrn not to dwell on the past but because — hello! — the pair has been involved with the Free Gaza movement, one of the organizers of the so-called “Freedom Flotilla.” Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez has announced that he, too, would like to participate in the next running of the blockade — and why not? Obama has blessed the project with success.
