In this episode, I discuss how we all have defining moments and if we are there yet.
Meat & Potatoes
Do you remember when you were a kid on a road trip with mom and dad and you would utter that phrase: ‘Are we there yet?’ Or do you have kids right now that ask you? Either way, you understood pretty clear their response. At times, it almost felt like it was a defining moment. For you as a child, if you asked just one more time, it was over. For you as a parent, you wrestle internally with how much restraint you should display. Or… You go all in! You make your point, and if those boundaries are crossed, it’s on like Donkey Kong.
Politically speaking, the same principle should be applied. And, for the most part, it does. But with the reckless president we’re stuck with right now, do we really know what’s going on? We’ve seen time after time how the red line that was drawn, was done so with chalk in the sand. Give it a second, and it’s gone! And maybe, just maybe this will be a defining moment for the world.
Abraham Lincoln’s Lyceum address [excerpt] January 27, 1838 –
“At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it?– Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never!–All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years.
“At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.
“I hope I am over wary; but if I am not, there is, even now, something of ill-omen, amongst us. I mean the increasing disregard for law which pervades the country; the growing disposition to substitute the wild and furious passions, in lieu of the sober judgment of Courts; and the worse than savage mobs, for the executive ministers of justice. This disposition is awfully fearful in any community; and that it now exists in ours, though grating to our feelings to admit, it would be a violation of truth, and an insult to our intelligence, to deny.”
Obama’s strategy with Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) has been a ‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy’ approach. As much as it pains me to say this, the one thing Obama has gotten right is “that the overwhelming majority of Muslims reject this ideology.”
Lost & Found
Harper Lee, author of ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ wrote another manuscript that has long been forgot about until recently. ‘Go Set a Watchman‘ was written before the iconic novel, ‘To Kill a Mockingbird.’ The publisher at the time was so taken by Scout’s flashback, that they asked her to write more about her childhood. And the rest as we know is history. ‘Go Set a Watchman’ is set to be released this year in July.
Who Said That?
During the Prayer Breakfast, Obama tried to compare the Crusades to what we are witnessing with Daesh. Maybe he took Common Core History 101, or he learned about it by watching Bryan Williams. It really was something stupid!
